KARACHI - Three dacoits were killed while one of their companions succeeded in fleeing under the cover of firing in a shootout in Ali Mohammad Brohi Goth within the remit of the Quaidabad Police Station on Tuesday.

According to police officials, the band of dacoits is behind several killings, including those of policemen, besides a number of robberies. They said that during the raid on their hideout, the robbers were asked to surrender, but they attacked the police party, which retaliated, killing three of them, identified as Faisal Siddiqui, Zareef Khan and Omar. Their bodies were sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later shifted to a morgue. The law enforcers said that raids were being made for the arrest of their fleeing member. They also said that hospitals were under their radar.  An 8mm rifle, a TT pistol and a repeater were seized during the shootout. Meanwhile, law-enforcement agencies detained about half a dozen suspects in raids on Daud Goth and Yousuf Goth in Saeedabad area of Baldia Town.

Police officials said they were tipped off about the presence of Lyari gangsters and operatives of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in Baldia Town.  The arrested suspects, Ejaz aka Commando, Usman, Mir Aslam and Siraj, were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.  Ten hand grenades, four kalashnikovs, three repeaters and three pistols were seized from them.

KARACHI POLICE ARREST 72 ACCUSED: The Karachi police in their drive against criminals, arrested 72 accused from different areas of the metropolis during the past three days.

A police statement on Monday said that 47 pistols, two mousers, two rifles, two daggers and three mobile phones were recovered from the possession of those arrested.

The police have registered cases and started investigation, it was further stated.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has strongly condemned the murder of PPP leader Sardar Imam Bakhsh Baloch. The chief minister has ordered the Additional IG Police Karachi to ensure the arrest of culprits and also ensure maintenance of law and order in the surrounding areas of Sohrab Goth.

Police said Imam Bakhsh Baloch was gunned down in the limits of Sachal Police Station in Gulzar-e-Hijri area by two armed motorcyclists.
