During an abrupt visit to a centre set up for Secondary School Certificate examinations, government team witnessed free use of unfair means by the candidates in presence of the invigilators at Islamia Elementary School.

The raiding team led by Assistant Commissioner Daska Zulfiqar Bhoon found that Jaffer Baig, the superintendent, and other invigilators were facilitating the students. He was shocked when he learnt that Abu Bakar, son Abdullah Alvi, an invigilator and deputy headmaster, was also appearing in the same examination centre.

Source revealed that the superintendent and other invigilators including Muhammad Afzal, Gulab Deen, Abdul Sattar, Muhammad Farooq and Nasrullah Alvi were involved in the corrupt practice. The sources said that they charged heavy amounts for facilitating the students and those refuse to pay were not allowed to cheat.

When contacted, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Controller Examinations Dr Tanveer Zafar said that he was alive to the issue. He further said that the board chairman had visited the school and terminated the examination staff while new examiners had been appointed. He further said that as district head, the DCO is authorised to raid anywhere. He pledged to take legal action against the accused.

One the other hand, District Officer Coordination Malik Abid Awan said the Sialkot DCO had ordered the AC to take immediate action. AC Zulfiqar Bhoon raided the centre and submitted a report (vide letter No AC/DSK/104, Dated 19-03-2014) on which the controller examinations was advised to tackle the situation.

Similarly, EDO Education Riaz Ahmed was keen to take action against the accused but he said that the process was prolonged. He added that teachers from other districts are made superintendents in exam centres while the board would notify the respective district about the misconduct of the teachers.

He said that inquiry would be conducted against the superintendent and then the other accused. DDO Education Amanullah Khan told that the raid was solely conducted by AC and his office was not informed about the act.
