LAHORE The District Police Officer (DPO) Khanewal Muhammad Waqar Abbasi has dismissed six police officers from service on the charges of cowardice and criminal negligence, police officials said on Thursday. It may be recalled that unidentified gunmen had attacked a police station in Main Channu Area on December 29, 2010 and fled away after snatching rifles, mobile phones and cash from the cops after holding them hostage at gunpoint. The DPO had suspended five officials and ordered a disciplinary inquiry against them. During the departmental inquiry, six officers including In-charge Jandiali police post Sub Inspector Hameed Arshad, ASI Muhammad Riaz, Moharrar Muhammad Aashiq, and Constables Muhammad Waseem, Muhammad Farooq and Muhammad Dilshad were found guilty. In his report sent to the DPO, the inquiry officer recommended strong departmental actions against the police and noted that the incident took place due to the criminal negligence. The gangsters had not only robbed the police station but also destroyed the police image in the eyes of the pubic.
