OUR STAFF REPORTER HAFIZABAD: Eight dacoits intruded into the houses of a sub inspector of police and his neighbour and made off with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 500,000. According to police source, the bandits barged into the house of SI Muhammad Azam in Mohallah Bahawalpur and fled away with eight tolas of gold ornaments and Rs 25,000. On resistance, they thrashed the cop. Later, they intruded into the house of his neighbour, Sahib Khan, shot at him and snatched two tola gold ornaments and Rs 5,000. STOLEN WHEAT SEIZED: The Kaleke police have taken into custody 70 bags of government wheat worth about Rs 200,000 allegedly stolen by a Passco official. Abbas Ali was arrested red-handed while he was loading wheat in a truck. The police have also impounded the truck (EKK-577), and registered a case against the driver and the official. Absent teachers shown the door: Scores of government have been dismissed because of their absence from schools during duty hours in Hafizabad. The teachers of Government Boys and Girls High Schools Ramke Chatha, Boys High School Kalianwala, Govt Girls and Boys Primary and High School Jagganwala, Govt Boys Elementary and Girls Model School Marh Bashi were found absent from duty and were suspended forthwith by EDO (Education) Dr Naeem Iqbal. He warned all the other teachers to concentrate on their duties and desist from absence otherwise he would take stern action against them.
