OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has announced to launch countrywide campaign to bring about change in the electoral system. Public gatherings and rallies would be organized across the country starting from Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi, on January 8. Million March could also be organized. Addressing a telephonic press conference on Thursday, he said that PAT could enter into an alliance with other parties including Imran Khans Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on the agenda of changing the electoral system. Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani, Dr Raheeq Abbasi, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, Anwar Akhtar, G M Malik, Qazi Faiz ul Islam and other were also present. Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that if the nation rose against the corrupt electoral system, the destiny of Pakistan would change overnight. He said that real change would neither emanate from the establishment nor from the current electoral system, rather peoples uprising against the oppressive system would be instrumental in changing the system. Even if 100 elections were held under the present system, the dream of change would remain just that; a pipedream, he added. To a questions, he said that those who have stepped in the political arena with the slogan of change, would not only be disappointed themselves after the elections but would also disappoint the nation. He said that PAT would take people to streets for peaceful change in the system. He ruled out any possibility of civil disobedience movement to achieve the purpose, saying it would be a democratic and peaceful struggle. He asked the print and electronic media to support him in his mission. He said any political party who sought cooperation from PAT to contest elections under the present system would not get any. However, he offered every kind of cooperation and alliance with those who endeavored to change the electoral system.
