LAHORE-Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting at Chief Ministers Secretariat here on Thursday which reviewed in detail law and order situation in the province especially in Lahore. The meeting also took a number of important decisions for eradication of crimes and improving efficiency of police. In this connection, Inspector General of Police will review law and order situation daily while Chief Minister Punjab will hold a meeting on weekly basis for this purpose. The meeting also formed various committees for improving performance of police and Provincial Chief Secretary will assign responsibilities to the heads of these committees who will evolve a comprehensive plan in this regard and will be responsible for its speedy implementation. The plan evolved for improving police efficiency will be implemented initially as a pilot project in five big cities of the province including Lahore and later its scope will be extended to the whole province. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that nothing could be more important than maintenance of law and order and protection and life and property of citizens, therefore, Punjab government was attaching top priority to this sector and all out resources were being utilized for this purpose. He said that a number of decisions had been taken in this connection including capacity building of police, improvement of various sectors, eradication of crimes, launching of vigorous campaign against proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crimes, introducing a strict system of reward and punishment, improvement of traffic system, reforms at police station level as well as establishment of conciliation committees. He said that the short and medium term strategy evolved for this purpose will be implemented speedily and the officers concerned will be assigned special task.
