The Supreme Court on Friday rejected governments petition, seeking review the apex courts verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case. A full-court of the SC announced the verdict on the governments application after its counsel Babar Awan didnt appear before the court to produce certain documents for which he was allowed by the 17-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Secretary Law Masood Chishti also avoided reading the documents before the court. The SC had stricken down the controversial NRO in 2009, which was promulgated by the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf aimed at closing corruption and criminal cases against certain politicians. The NRO paved the way for former prime minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to end her self exile.
