LAHORE : Growers can avoid a wheat aphid attack by growing canola and mustard along with wheat besides using a balanced amount of fertilizer. Agriculture experts said. They said the aphid attack had been increasing on wheat for few years, adding wheat aphid insects sucked juice from the plants and ultimately stopped their growth. They said that it was difficult to handle the aphid attack on wheat because sprays could not be carried out as it was harmful for health and killed wheat-friendly insects as well. They said that canola and maize should be grown in lining at a distance of 100 feet from wheat as it was the best and cheap method for controlling an aphid attack.

By adopting the method, the insect will first attack canola and mustard instead of wheat and wheat friendly insects which grow on canola also plays a vital role in eating wheat aphids, they said.
