Punjab Inspector General of Police Khan Baig has declared that it has been proved beyond any doubt that the Punjab Police are determined to render supreme sacrifice to eliminate crime and criminals. He pledged that the Police would make all out efforts to maintain law and order across the province.

The IG Police was talking to local newsmen after offering joint Namaz-e-Janaza of the martyred SHO Inspector Syed Arif Hussain Shah and two cops of Elite Force Muhammad Aslam and Riasat Ali at Police Lines here the other night. Khang Baig said that brave and dedicated policemen were assets to the department and lauded the sacrifice of the deceased in the line of duty without caring for their lives. He said that he was fully satisfied with the functioning of the police in containing the desperado, though he fled from the scene.

Replying to a question, he said that the Punjab Police had been put on red alert after the Rawalpindi incident and expressed his hope that better results would be achieved. On the occasion, he announced Rs3 million each for the dependants of the martyred cops and jobs for one member of the each bereaved families in the police department behalf of the Punjab government. He further said that the injured cops would be provided all sorts of medical treatment free of cost till their rehabilitation.

Prominent among those who attended the joint Namaz-e-Janaza including Commissioner Gujranwala Division Shamail Ahmad Khawaja, Regional Police Officer Gujranwala Range Sa’ad Akhtar Bharwana, DCO Mansoor Qadir, DPO Muhammad Zubair Dareshak, MNA Shahid Hussain Bhatti, MPAs Ch Asad Ullah Arian and Syed Shoaib Shah Nawaz, former Federal Minister Liaqat Abbas Bhatti and a large number of policemen, traders and notables.

On Sunday morning Syed Arif Hussain Shah was laid to rest in his native village Thatha Parothian (Safdarabad district Sheikhupura), constables Muhammad Aslam in Sukheke and Riasat Ali in Pindi Bawary (Hafizabad) after offering separate Namaz-e-Janaza in their villages. The funeral was attended by large number of their family members, villagers and elected representatives of the area.

Meanwhile, the IG Police has suspended SDPO Pindi Bhattian Muhammad Akram for his ill-planning during the shootout with the outlaw Haji Sajjad alias Samma who all alone fought with the police contingent and killed three daring and experienced cops and injured seven others and also succeeded in fleeing the place of occurrence by taking along Zafar Gondal SHO Jalalpur Bhattian as protective shield on a bike of a villager. 

However, abducted Zafar Gondal was set on liberty by the desperado Saturday night.  The police have registered a case U/S 302/324 PPC against the PO Haji Sajjad alias Samma, his brother Ejaz Ahmad, Ali Raza, Intisar alias Saroo and Faisal alias Faisli but the police have so far failed to arrest any of the nominated accused.

It was surprising that police intentionally or unintentionally has ignored to include section 365 or 366 PPC (abduction of Zafar Gondal SHO Jalalpur Bhattian) while registering the FIR.

According to hospital sources, all the seven cops were progressing satisfactorily in Hafizabad, Pindi Bhattian and Allied Hospital Faisalabad.
