PESHAWAR - Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has expressed voice concern over supply of low gas pressure to industrial units in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, termed it was contrary to the relevant article of the constitution.

“KP industries are steadily closing down due to low gas pressure by Sui-Northern Gas Pipeline Limited, while the full pressure was not also supplied to domestic consumers’, said SCCI president, Zahidullah Shinwari, while stated in a press release issued here on Sunday.

He said that the step was violation of Peshawar High Court decision regarding the low supply of gas to industrial and domestic consumers.

Shinwari further added the SNGPL has been openly violating Article 158 of the constitution. He informed the chamber and business community had lodged a writ in Peshawar High Court, under the stated Article of the constitution, after which the court was exempted industries from gas loadshedding. He, however, said the SNGPL now supplying low pressure gas to industrial units in KP, in violation of the court verdict.

SCCI president said the KPK has been producing a 510 mmcf natural gas with indigenous resources, while the gas consumption is around 250mmcf. He said that it was totally unjust with both domestic and industrial consumers, to supply low pressure gas, despite producing surplus natural gas in the province. He demanded the SNGPL to supply full gas pressure to industrial units in the province otherwise the business community will move to court.
