islamabad - European Union with the collaboration of a Non-governmental organization (NGO) yesterday held children fair and an art exhibition to promote recreational opportunities for students.

The event was organized at Lok Virsa where ‘Shirkat’ and EU arranged colourful activities for children including a theme park, jumping castle, trampoline, and magic show and cartoon characters.

The event was also organized in connection with children’s day being celebrated around the world.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director Shirakat Bilquis Tahira said that women participation in public life can be positively supported if youth, men and other actors are sensitized to play their effective role. She said it is important to build the capacity of children to sensitize them regarding women’s role in public life.

“Shirakat is playing in bringing positive change in behaviours of people through various programs,” she said.

Children from the schools presented speeches on the issue of gender discrimination, women’s participation in public life, and leadership.  Students of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) expressing their thoughts on the painting exhibited by them highlighted the challenges women face in public life.

The head of European Aid Commission Anne Kofoed, on this occasion said that art can contribute in changing the lives of women and can be a source of changing minds and thoughts of people.  

At the end guests visited the gallery and viewed the excellent pieces of art for greater cause.
