Women’s top 10 unchanged, Kvitova slips

PARIS - There were no changes in the top 10 of the latest WTA rankings published on Monday, while Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic slipped two places to 13th. Angelique Kerber is leading the rankings with 8,000 points followed by Serena Williams (7,050) and Agnieszka Radwanska (4,975). Kvitova lost to Romania’s Monica Niculescu in the final in Luxembourg, with the winner climbing 14 places to 37th and Kvitova slipping to 13th as consequences. WTA top 10: 1. Del Potro makes leap in rankings after win

PARIS - Juan Martin del Potro has climbed 21 places to 42nd in the latest ATP world rankings published on Monday following his victory in Stockholm on Sunday. The 28-year-old Argentine former US Open champion beat Jack Sock in straight sets in the Swedish capital to win his first ATP title in almost three years. It was his first appearance in a Tour final since he beat Bernard Tomic in Sydney in 2014, and his win comes two months after he reached the Olympic final in Rio de Janeiro, where he was beaten by Andy Murray. Novak Djokovic remains the world number one ahead of Murray, with Stan Wawrinka in third spot, while Roger Federer is up a place to seventh. Murray can take over the number one spot if he wins the three remaining tournaments of 2016, starting with Vienna this week.–AFP





Polo in Pink Tournament begins today

LAHORE – MMS will take on Happy Cow Cheese in the inaugural match of the Polo in Pink by Happy Cow Cheese Tournament to be played today (Tuesday) at 1:45pm. The Lahore Polo Club (LPC) has been organising the event in which 12 teams have been featuring and divided into two pools. According to LPC president Irfan Ali Hyder, the purpose of holding the event is to create awareness about the breast cancer among the masses. “With this colourful event, this year’s polo season has also been beginning with the aim of providing healthy activities to polo players and fans,” he said. Nafees Barry, owner of Happy Cow Cheese, has said that like the past year’s season, this one will also be interesting as well as challenging. Abid Sher elected as PJF president

LAHORE - Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali and Shahid Javed Monday unanimously elected as president and secretary of Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) respectively at it general council meeting. “These elections were due before the May 20, 2016, but for some reason, the PJF did not hold them in time and thus the federation became defunct. The member units of the PJF then organised these elections and elected fresh officer-bearers,” newly-elected secretary Shahid said. The other officer-bearers elected for a fresh term of four-year are Mahmood Naveed (chairman), Mrs Abida Tanveer (chairperson), Ejaz Khokhar, Jalal-ud-din (svp), Imtiaz Akram (treasurer), Sameena Khan (women wing), Maqsood Ahmad, Ameer ullah Khan, Shahid Mahmood and M Jehangir Iqbal (member executive committee).–Staff Reporter





Real Lahore win Fame League title

LAHORE - Real Lahore scored a fine 2-0 win over Fame Football Club to win the Fame Football League title here on Monday at Model Town football ground. In the super round, Real Lahore FC got 37 points and secured first position. In their 13 matches, they won 12 as one-match ended in a draw, whereas Fame FC collected 33 points and finished at the second position. The match was full of thrill and excitement as both the teams exchanged the attacks with lively moves and coordination between the midfield and the flanks. In the 44th minute, Zeeshan scored first goal for Real Lahore. In the second half, Yousaf netted the second goal for Real Lahore. In the second match of the day, Murad FC thrashed Afshan FC by 4-1.
