ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has sped up its efforts to broke a deal between protesting parties (PTI & PAT) and PML-N government, as PPP’s Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari telephoned opposition parties heads including Imran Khan and Sirajul Haq in an attempt to resolve the situation through political dialogue.

Zardari, after his return from Dubai, has jumped in political arena with the attempt to resolve the impasse with political dialogue, as he in two days not only held series of party’s meeting but also engaged with ruling PML-N and other opposition parties’ heads.

Sources said that Zardari in party’s CEC meeting faced variety of opinion about supporting PML-N in this critical situation. As most of the bigwigs asked Zardari not to support ruling PML-N fully till the drop scene of marches. They said some of the party members also opined to give suggestion to both Sharif brothers to step down and save whole the system.

Zardari, after holding long parleys with party colleagues, telephoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and discussed with him the ongoing political deadlock.

Apart from suggesting Imran to prefer dialogue, sources said, he suggested PTI’s chief not to open all the fronts as all the parties are getting united against PTI. Sources said Zardari also asked Imran to take back resignation of MNAs as it could provide a big political dent to whole system.

Zardari in his previous telephonic contact with Imran (on August 5) put weight behind Imran Khan’s demand of recount in disputed constituencies.

“PPP agrees to the contention of recount in the disputed constituencies under the law and opposes invocation of Article 245 of the Constitution in Islamabad,” Zardari had discussed with PTI’s chief in his previous telephonic contact.

Zardari also separately called AML chief Shikeh Rashid Ahmed and forbade him from taking extreme steps. Zardari asked him to help find a middle ground to end political deadlock, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Zardari also telephoned Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq and discussed current situation. He asked Haq to convince Imran to avoid giving threat to PML-N and try to resolve the issue with political dialogue. He also asked Haq to further speed up efforts to diffuse tension, as coming two days are much crucial, said sources.
