ISLAMABAD - The constitution of various national sports federations needs to be reviewed, as there are many flaws in there. "These federation constitutions have been moulded for vested interests", said an official of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Azam Dar here on Wednesday. Dar is PSB's director training but under the current regime, he also doubles up as the PSB spokesman. Dar further said that the PSB was looking into the model constitution prepared by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), which might be implemented simultaneously on all national sports bodies. "We want to enhance the powers of Pakistan Sports Board to monitor the activities of sports federations, which were being supported by the PSB in the shape of funds, "he added. "The model constitution will not confront the International Olympic Committee (IOC) rules. However, the national laws of any country are superior to those of an international sports body," said he. "The minister of sports has agreed with this proposal in principle and work is being done on the model constitution for the national sports organisations of the country. However, the process will take some time to make it imposable, "he maintained. Is this a declaration of war and a struggle to control the national federations in the same fashion that Brig. (Retd) Saulat Abbas tried around seven years ago? As far as sound bites go, it is pretty close to the words said then.
