LAHORE - The City witnessed worst ever traffic disruption as a result of the protests following the Supreme Court's verdict against Sharif Brothers declaring them ineligible to contest polls. The furious PML (N) workers and general public thronged to City roads including Ferozepur Road, Multan Road, Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Circular Road, GT Road and the adjoining link roads. They were shouting slogans against govt and burnt the tyres, tore the banners in protest. As a result, the public transport suspended its operation on the main City roads causing great inconvenience to the people. The New Khan suspended its route from RA Bazar to Sanda and Railway Station to Islampura. The C& B also suspended its route on Ferozepur Road and Railway station. The Daewoo, Sial and Niazi Express also suspended its operation from Ferozepur Road to Railway Station. The wagon routes leading to and from Railway station and Badami Bagh also suspended their operation. However, the motorists and motorcycles were free to move. Public had to face immense problems to reach their destination owing to transport suspension and either they travelled on foot or took lift from the motorists. However, motorcycle rickshaws were witnessed carrying the passengers at various short locations from MAO College to Sanda and Civil Secretariate to Islampura, Secretariate to Bhatti chowk and Badami Bagh to Minar-e-Pakistan. They charged heavily from the passengers The traffic was resumed in the evening and a number of buses and wagons came on the road as the agitation and protest subsided with the sunset. However, the traffic remained again suspended at Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam with the news of convening Punjab Assembly emergency session by the Speaker and imposition of Governor rule for a period of two months in Punjab. The Police put barricades around the Punjab Assembly and guarded the Faisal Chowk. The general public also remained at their houses as the panic gripped the City after the SC judgement and the resultant protest demonstration. The Police guarded the important building and roads in the City.
