ISLAMABAD - Upholding the Election Tribunal verdict, the Supreme Court Wednesday disqualified a Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf legislator from NA-162-Sahiwal.  A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali after hearing the arguments of all parties dismissed PTI MNA Rai Hassan Nawaz appeal against the Election Tribunal verdict.

The tribunal had disqualified PTI MNA for concealing his assets in the nomination papers during the general elections held in May 2013. Rai Hassan Nawaz was elected from NA-162-Sahiwal in the general elections on the ticket of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. His rival candidate Haji Muhammad Yaqoob who contended the elections as an independent candidate from the said constituency had challenged his victory before the Election Tribunal alleging that Rai had concealed his assets in the nomination papers, filed during the elections.

The Election Tribunal after hearing the matter had disqualified Rai Hassan Nawaz and had ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold re-poll in the said constituency.

Rai Hassan challenged the tribunal verdict in the Supreme Court, which also disqualified him after dismissing his appeal. The court announced in its short order and detailed judgment would be issued later on.
