Rawalpindi - The City Traffic Police penalised 12,704 motorists and collected Rs 5,476,200 fine in one week. The fine was collected during a grand operation against underage rickshaw drivers and owners of cars and motorcycles involved in wrong parking. The police also impounded a total of 327 rickshaws, motorcycles and other vehicles plying on roads without documents, said acting CTO/SP Iftikharul Haq while talking to media persons here yesterday.

He said that following instructions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, the traffic police have been taking strict action against the underage drivers and other traffic rules violators. Iftikhar informed that police had issued 1,197 fine tickets to underage rickshaw drivers while 1,782 underage motorcycle drivers have also been penalised. He added that 3,079 owners of vehicles were fined on account of parking rules violation whereas 6,682 drivers of motorcycles and vehicles were fined over miscellaneous violations in the city.
