Islamabad - The Government Degree College for Women, Peshawar Road, held a colourful grand meena bazaar in the college premises where female students and faculty members actively participated, informed college spokesperson here on Saturday.

According to her, the annual meena bazaar always comes at a special time in educational institution in the academic calendar when the air is cool, the stress of exams has not quite set in and the students and faculty come together with their families and friends for a day of fun and enjoyment. Bushra Ajmal, college principal, inaugurated the meena bazaar along with chief guest Rukhsana Shaheen, the former principal, in presence of hundreds of cheerful students and faculty members. The colourful event featured various food, fun, cosmetics, palmistry and photo studio stalls set up by the zealous and energetic female students of the college, displaying an array of unique ideas. The appealing stalls which were beautifully adorned and decorated by the students offered a variety of food such as dahi bhary, gol gappy, burgers, roll parathas, biryani, chaat, ice cream, sandwiches, samosas and barbeque. The games, beverages, frozen desserts and accessories along with nail art, mehndi and hairdo services made the event more enjoyable and fun. A huge crowd of students was witnessed at two stalls of cosmetic and palmistry to buy cosmetics and to know about their future life. Similarly, song dedication and similar activities conducted by the students proved to be another attraction of the event. A variety show was also held in the meena bazaar.

To invoke the sense of competition, the meena bazaar also offered prizes to stall holders keeping in view the presentation of the kiosks, cleanliness and quality of the products offered to visitors. Mehwish Khan, a 3rd year student, said that she was very happy and thankful to college administration for holding such a glorious and tremendous meena bazaar. She said that such activities would be helpful in polishing the qualities of the students.

“I am here with my two friends and a cousin and enjoying a lot. Palmistry stall attracted me a lot,” she said. Amna Aslam, another student, said that college administration should organise such events after every three months so that the students could enjoy.

The chief guest Rukhsana Shaheen lauded the extraordinary efforts put up by participants and organisers that marked the remarkable success of the event.
