LAHORE - The Punjab Vocational Training Council will train as many as 480,000 male and female youths in various fields over the next three years, its spokesman said yesterday.

At present the PVTC is running 62 different demand-driven trades in Punjab through 223 vocational training institutes with half-yearly enrollment of more than 68,000 young people - 60percent male and 40percent female. Till today, it has trained almost 315,000 males and females.

“The council is making serious efforts and will certainly achieve the target set by the government,” the spokesman said.

The primary objective of the vocational training is to transform the lives of the unemployed youth and enable them to earn their livelihood through honourable means. PVTC offers IT related courses like Computer Operator/Office Professional, Web & Graphics Designing, Computer Textile Designing, Computer Hardware & Network Technician.

Other fields of training include: Auto CAD, E-Commerce, Beautician, Skin Care, Beauty Therapy, Hair Stylist, Embroidery, Dress Making, Fashion Designing, Clinical Assistant, Halal Butcher, Plastic Injection, Blow Molding, Food Cooking & Kitchen Management.

Another idea behind all the PVTC programmes is women’s empowerment. As the status of women is linked to their economic conditions, various steps have been undertaken by the Punjab government, NGOs and civil society activists to improve their lot.

According to reports of various institutions, PVTC has attained highest employability ratio, 73 per cent, among all such bodies in the field.

To implement purpose-built training programs for the empowerment of the women, private sector has also been involved in the PVTC programmes. For this purpose independent district boards of management were formed for assistance in the establishment and management of VTIs.

Role of private sector can also not be denied in curriculum development, human resources selection, procurement of right equipment, management of VTIs, maintain quality standards as per the demand of employers, assistance in evaluation of training activities, on job training and placement.

The PVTC has developed many such courses which are enabling women to make addition in their family income for better livelihood as side by side they are being equipped with entrepreneurial training so that they can start their own businesses even at smart scale or being self-employed are the best options for finding gainful employment. PVTC has also started entrepreneurship program in its VTIs.
