ISLAMABAD - Salman Bin Saleem claimed the title of Under-13 event of the ongoing Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship by beating Hamza Bin Asif 2-0 in the final on Friday here at PTF Tennis Complex. Top seed Aqeel and top seed lady Sara Mehoob also advanced to the semi-finals and final respectively. Sara Mehboob Khan thrashed Saba Aziz in straight sets in the first semi-final of the ladies singles, as Saba could not display her natural game against national champion. In the final, Sara Mahboob will face Ushna Sohail, who defeated Sara Mansoor 2-0 in the second semi-final. Final will be played on Sunday (today) at the same venue. Meanwhile, in the quarter-final of the men's singles fixture, veteran Hameed-ul-Haq bowed out against Aqeel Khan, who claimed first set by conceding four games and was ahead 3-0 in the second set. At this stage, former Davis Cupper could not continue his game and left the court. Second seed Asim Shafique, Tanvir Ashiq and Muhammad Abid Ali also qualified semi-finals by outplaying their respective challengers. Men's Singles semi-finals will also be played on Saturday (today) at the same venue. In men's doubles, Aqeel Khan pairing with former Pakistan number one Rasheed Malik brushed side upcoming players Tanveer Ashiq and Muhammad Abid Ali 2-0 to qualify for the final. They will meet other winning pair Asim Shafique and Hameed-ul-Haq on Saturday (today), who defeated Imran Shaukat and Usmna Ejaz 6-4, 6-0 in the second semi-final. Heera Ashiq, Faizan Khurram, Muhammad Abid Ali and Waqas Malik reached the semi-finals of boys under-17 event. In the boys' under-13 competitions Salman Bin Saleem beat top seed Kashan-ul-Haq 2-0 to clinch the title. Ladies' and men's singles finals will be played on Sunday. Prize distribution ceremony will be held after the ladies final and Federal Environment Minister Hameedllah Jan Afridi will be the chief guest.
