LAHORE - Rider Muhammad Sabir of Sui Southern Gas Company retained the title of Champion of Hills Cycle Race held from Rawalpindi to Murree on December 25 by covering the distance of 67 kilometres in 2 hours 24 minutes 55 seconds. In all, 50 cyclists belonging to the affiliated Units of Pakistan Cycling Federation including Army, Railways, Wapda, Sui Southern Gas Company and all the four provinces had participated in this national level cycling event. It is pointed out that with a view to paying tributes to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed for her life-long services to the country, this event was named as Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Champion of Hills Cycle Race in conjunction with her death anniversary. The said cycle race started from the Army Stadium Rawalpindi at 10.00 am and the opening ceremony was graced by Brig Saleem Nawaz Malik, Director Army Sports Directorate as the chief guest. The closing/prize distribution ceremony was held at Murree and Raja Attique Sarwar, MPA was the chief guest on that occasion. This was a very tough competition and the entire route of the race was the hilly track. The final results of the said cycle race are: Muhammad Sabir (SSGC) 1st Time 2:24.55 hours Niamat Ali (SSGC) 2nd Ismail Saeed (Army) 3rd Cash prizes of Rs 50,000 were paid to the above cyclists by the Pakistan Cycling Federation.
