LAHORE - Senior leader of PML-N and MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif has said that promotion of education is essential for overcoming terrorism and other problems. Democracy will have to be strengthened for continuity of development process. Solution of the problems of youth is of vital importance for progress and prosperity of the country, says a handout issued here. Addressing a symposium in connection with the 150th anniversary of King Edward Medical University Lahore, on Sunday, he said that Punjab government provided relief assistance of Rs 20,000 per family to the flood victims through Watan Cards and the government allocated 10 billion rupees for this purpose due to which it faced shortage of financial resources for increasing salaries of doctors and nurses. Secretary Health Punjab Fawad Hassan Fawad, Vice Chancellor of KEMU Prof Asad Aslam Khan, former principal Ahmed Sadiq, Prof Azhar Hameed, Syed Babar, Mubashar Rana and others also addressed the function. MNA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, former finance minister Sartaj Aziz besides teachers and students of the university were also present on the occasion. Hamza said as soon as the funds became available increase in the salaries of doctors and paramedical staff will be announced. Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, on behalf of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, announced provision of 10 acre land and five crore rupees for the construction of campuses of KEMU. He further said that as long as media and judiciary were active, there should be a hope of moving ahead. He said that a unanimous planning should be made by the political leadership of the country for the solution of longstanding problems of the masses. He said that if 26 political parties can unanimously adopt 19th amendment in the parliament, there should not be any difficulty in devising a joint strategy for resolving a few basic problems being confronted by the masses. He said that government will have to evolve a solid planning for making the youth, who constitute 65 per cent population of the country, useful citizens of the society. He said that doctors and nurses belong to a noble profession and the services of doctors during floods have been hailed by the entire nation. He said that 47 per cent population of Pakistan is deprived of basic health facilities as no sincere effort was made in the past for the improvement of health sector. However, he said, Punjab government has put the province on the right track by attaching top priority to the uplift of health and education sectors. lie said that there is no dearth of talent, courage and commitment in the nation and it has been amply demonstrated by the people during the earthquake and the recent floods. He said thai there is a need for the leadership of the country to solve the problems of the youth and mobilize them for national progress and development. He said that the system of the country is not bad and it depends on the leadership how it operates the system. lie said that the same system is operating successfully in India. He said that a strong faith in democracy can help resolve the problems being faced by the country.
