KARACHI/ISLAMABAD (APP)- Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) has posted a profit after tax of Rs 5.314 billion for the half year ending December 31, 2008. According to financial results of the company despatched to Karachi Stock Exchange here Thursday, the pre-tax profit was estimated at Rs 8.257 billion against a loss of Rs 9.51b during the same period last year as the company had paid Rs 23.163b for voluntary separation scheme. The earning per share also improved to Rs 1.04 during the period under review against a negative EPS of Rs 1.87 in the six months of 2007. Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has earned a profit of Rs. 19.572 billion during the 2nd quarter of the current financial year ended on December 31. "The total profit of the company for the quarter is Rs. 19.572 billion (before deducting tax) as compared to Rs. 17.543 billion for the same period of the corresponding year," said a press release issued here on Thursday. After deducting tax, the profit stood at Rs. 13.093 billion, it was announced in a meeting of Board of Directors of OGDCL, which was presided over by its Chairman Farooq Rehmatullah. The meeting also announced cash dividend at the rate of Rs. 1.75 per share which is 17.50 percent for the quarter ended on December 31, 2008. This is in addition to the 1st interim dividend already paid at the rate of Rs. 2 per share which was 20pc at the end of the first quarter, it added. The interim cash dividend entitlement will be paid to those shareholders whose names will appear in the 'Register of Members' on April 13, 2009 (Monday), while the Share Transfer Books of the Company will remain closed from April 14, 2009 (Tuesday) to April 21, 2009 (Tuesday). Meanwhile, Soneri Bank Ltd has posted a profit after tax of Rs 701.041 million for the year 2008 and declared a 22pc bonus share. According to financial results of the bank despatched to Karachi Stock Exchange here Thursday, the gross profit was estimated at Rs 953.233 billion for the period ending December 2008. The earning per share stood at Rs 1.70 during the period under review.
