ISLAMABAD - The federal government has sanctioned 500 posts of patrolling officers and junior patrolling officers in the National Highway and Motorway Police; it is learnt reliably here yesterday.

To overcome the uniformed police officers, the President of Pakistan has sanctioned the creation of 500 posts in National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) for fiscal 2015-16, official sources told The Nation.

The official said that newly recruited 500 patrolling officers and junior patrolling officers will be inducted in the National Highway and Motorway Police and they will perform their duties on motorway and different highways.

The creation of 500 posts is the part of prime minister’s decision for induction of 1,000 uniformed police officers in the National Highway and Motorway Police.

Inspector General Motorway Police Haji Saleem last month informed the Senate Standing Committee on Communication that due to shortage of personnel the employees of NMW&HW police cannot go on leave. He said that Federal Public Service Commission has failed to appoint employees against vacant posts approved in 2014 but now after sanctioning the posts it seems that the issue will be resolved.

Although the new sanctioned 500 posts have an equal number of Sub-Inspectors/Patrolling Officers and Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers, however their ratios for various locations are different, the official added.

The official said the sanctioned post included 18 posts in CPO-Headquarters zone which included 9 posts of Sub Inspectors/Patrolling Officer and Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers each. Similarly 159 posts for Motorway zone have been sanctioned which included 72 Sub Inspectors/Patrolling Officer and 87 Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers. For N-5 North zone 133 posts were sanctioned which include 56 Sub Inspectors/Patrolling Officer and 77 Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers, another 108 officers will be hired for N-5 Central zone which will include 41 Sub Inspector/Patrolling Officer and 67 Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers, the official said.

He said for N-5 South zone, 47 of Sub Inspectors/Patrolling Officer were sanctioned while for West zone 15 Sub Inspectors/Patrolling Officers would be hired. There is no post of Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers for N-5 South and West zones in this phase, the official informed.

For National Highway and Motorway training college 20 post were sanctioned they include 10 each Sub Inspectors/Patrolling Officer and Constables/Junior Patrolling Officers, the official said.

The official said the posts will be filled with immediate effect. The remaining 500 posts will be filled during fiscal 2016-17, the official added.
