LAHORE - An official of the prison department was found shot dead in Kot Abdul Malik yesterday afternoon, police said.

Investigators identified the victim as Constable Ali Akbar Hashmi, who was serving at the Gujranwala prison. The body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy. A police investigator said the constable was lying shot in the head as they reached the crime scene. Some passersby spotted the body and contacted the police by phone.

According to initial investigations, unidentified men shot and killed the constable and fled after throwing his body in a nearby canal. The police registered a murder case against unidentified killers and are investigating with no arrest made yet.

TERROR SUSPECT ARRESTED: The provincial counter-terrorism department yesterday arrested a terror suspect and seized explosive material from his possession.

Police sources said the arrest was made during a raid at a hideout located on the Peco Road yesterday morning.

A CTD team raided the house on a tip-off. The suspect was identified as Arshad Mahmood, said to be member of a banned militant outfit.

The suspect was shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigations.
