Pakistan today is facing a very difficult situation in its tribal areas and the added problem is that Islamabad's policies for dealing this situation are not being recognized by the international community. They are even criticizing Pakistan's behavior towards American drone attacks. The government is facing criticism at home also for failing to safeguard our sovereignty. Initially US military actions were limited to Afghanistan but with the passage of time, it has extended its scope of activities to inside Pakistani territory. Pakistan needs to take this issue to the UN and launch diplomatic offensive. This is the time to strike a deal with Russia and other friendly countries for acquiring advanced military technology to counter the US threat. Pakistan will have to the constant stream of US officials that are visiting now in unending succession. Awarding Hilal-e-Quaid to Richard Boucher is a slap in the face of the nation. We should now lower the protocol for US dignitaries. If the US does not stop drone attacks, we should also consider expelling its ambassador and withdrawing ours from Washington. -ASMA RANI, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, January 10.
