LAHORE-Law enforcement agencies on Monday recovered and defused four bombs, carrying highly sophisticated explosive material, from the premises of the Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations building and from nearby school and footpath. A police source said that the bombs were planted with intention to create maximum damage and kill a large number of people which is evident from the initial reports of the Bomb Disposable Squad. 'A bomb was recovered from the premises of the SSP Office and exact location was the servant quarters situated in the back side of the SSP's office. Another bomb was fitted on the footpath on Ratigun Road while two others were planted alongside the wall of the Government Central Model High School', the source said. The bomb recovered from SSP office was concealed in a flowerpot, two bombs were concealed in small water coolers, while one was planted in the heap of garbage, the source added. A Bomb Disposable Squad official told this scribe seeking anonymity that the bombs were immediately defused otherwise the blasts might have claimed many lives. Each bomb weighing 3 to 4 kg was successfully disposed of by the officials, he said and ,added, that a bomb was to go off at 8:45 pm while the others after every 15 minutes. The roads including Ratigun, Outfall Road, Lower Mall usually remained busy with traffic and a large number of people. The locations where four bombs were planted have exposed the performance of the police deputed there for the security of the SSP Operations and other senior police officers besides other people. The office of SP Security is also situated in the same building. Local residents informed the police about water coolers and explosives planted on the road and footpath.
