LAHORE - Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Iqbal Town killed two robbers in an alleged 'encounter' and recovered huge cache of illegal weapons from their possession. The alleged robbers were apprehended by police near Dubai Chowk on tip off when they were going on two cars along with their two other accomplices, the police claimed. The police sources said on the directives of the CCPO Lahore, SP CIA Umer Virk constituted a police team headed by the CIA Iqbal Town Sub-Inspector Waris Bharwana to arrest the criminals for snatching two vehicles at gunpoint. The police team was tipped off that four outlaws were going to sell the cars and would pass from the area of Iqbal Town. The police cordoned off the area with heavy deployment and also set up a picket on main road near Dubai Chowk. As soon as policemen witnessed the two cars and signaled them for identification. Meanwhile the one criminal sitting on the driving seat of the vehicle (LEA-5676) left it on the road and escaped from the site while his two other accomplices opened firing on the policemen. The police retaliated the firing, which continued for half an hour. Resultantly, the two robbers were killed, the CIA officials maintained. They further said that taking advantage of the encounter, the other outlaw drove away the car (HX-157) towards Huma Block, which was later recovered unattended from a road. Police recovered two kalashankovos, three loaded magazines, 45 bullets, a rifle, launcher-gun, six rocket shells and other illegal weapons from the snatched cars. They had snatched the said two cars (HX-157 and LEA-5676) from local citizens at gunpoint and were going to the tribal areas to sell them at throwaway prices, the CIA officials claimed. The police shifted dead bodies of the robbers to the city morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the fleeing criminals. The police sources however, said that the alleged robbers were arrested some days back and police took them to the crime scene in its custody where they were killed in an alleged encounter.
