ISLAMABAD - Terming the boycott of presidential election by Pakistan People’s Party against the democratic norms, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he wished that they had contested the polls.

Talking to MPAs from Balochistan here at PM House on Friday, Nawaz said as per the previous schedule of presidential election, the polling day fell on 27th of Ramazan, which is a religious occasion. The change of date should have been acceptable to all as still enough time is available for campaigning, he added.

“Sportsman spirit demands that PPP should have contested election,” he said. He appreciated the PTI decision to go ahead with the elections, saying that it would strengthen the democratic culture in the country. He said nomination of Mamnoon Hussain as presidential candidate was in line with the PML-N’s federal vision through which it has brought the smaller province into mainstream.

Expressing his views on Balochistan, the PM said, “Building a new Balochistan and development in that province is my priority and I will bring special development package for it.” He said Gawadar Port is key to development of Pakistan, especially Balochistan. The port will be connected with China through Kashghar-Khunjrab- Gawadar Road Project and this project would usher in a new era of development and prosperity in Balochistan.
