ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered a total sum of Rs 3.264 billion through Voluntary Return (VR) and an amount of Rs 259.162 million through Plea Bargain (PB) during April 2012 to July 2013.

According to a letter issued by the NAB on Friday, the investigation bureau received total 2014 complaints out of which 1685 were processed during this period.

In 869 complaint cases there was a possibility of misuse of the authority and the misuse of the national exchequer and 127 complaints were sent for counter verifications.

Similarly, in 462 cases there was no further action required by the NAB, a total of 176 complaints were sent to the concerned departments for internal inquiries and 355 complaint cases were under progress.

In the same way, the NAB conducted 156 inquiries out of which a number of 11 inquiries converted into investigation and only 2 cases were resolved through voluntary return, the letter said.

A total of 55 inquires were closed and transferred to the concerned departments and 88 inquiries were under progress.

Similarly, the NAB conducted 64 investigations of different cases pertaining to corruption and corrupt practices by the state functionaries out of which only 4 investigations converted into reference and only 3 cases were resolved through Plea Bargain (PB) the letter said.

In the same way, a total of 10 cases were closed and transferred to the concerned departments and 47 investigation cases were under progress.     

The NAB was making all-out efforts to root out the corruption through three pronged strategy as awareness, prevention and enforcement and following the strategy the investigation bureau was holding investigations of multi-billion corruption cases like Rental Power Project (RPP), in this case the recovery amount has exceeded to Rs 11 billion and the remaining recovery of Rs 2.44 billion was also returned to the concerned quarters the NAB claimed in its letter.

Similarly, in the OGRA multi-billion rupees scam the principal accused Tauqir Sadiq was extradited from Duabi and further course of action is under way against his illegal appointment and his corrupt practices.

In the same way the NAB approved a VR of amount Rs 550 million MODARBA case through which one Mufti named Ihsanul Haq cheated public at large and in Tawana Pakistan Project scam one of the director who was arrested opted for Plea Bargain amounting 180 million and the process of recovery of the remaining amount was underway the letter claimed.
