LAHORE - Some seasoned police officers are backing criminals in one way or the other, as authorities are struggling to purge the provincial police from corruption-tainted cops.

A police spokesperson confirmed Friday that an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been dismissed from service while another two were demoted to the rank of Inspector. The provincial police chief awarded punishment to the officers after allegations of corruption and patronising criminals were proved true against them during departmental inquiries.

According to officials, Chunian DSP Raja Sadaqat Ali was dismissed from service for backing drug-peddlers. Similarly, Gowalmandi DSP Nasir Mushatq was demoted to the rank of Inspector for showing negligence in a murder case, a police spokesperson said.

Also, Khanewal DSP (Kabirwala) Naeem Aziz was demoted to the rank of Inspector for backing the killers and concealing facts in a murder case.
