LAHORE - Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has stated that under the Benazir Income Support Programme, a huge sum of Rs 78 billion has been provided to 4 million deserving and financially insecure families in order to translate into reality the promise of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to significantly improve their lives with a particular focus on empowering womenfolk of the country. While addressing a conference of love and peace organised by the Inner Wheel Organisation which is composed of Rotarian wives and female relatives at a local hotel here on Saturday. In addition to Begum Mussarat Latif Khosa, renowned artist and chairman Sahara Trust, Abrar-ul-Haq, conference chairman Dr Amber Faisal, District Chairman Mrs Shama Shahab, national representative Mrs Yasmin Zubairi, District Secretary Shazia Khan, President Women Chamber of Commerce Dr Shehla, reputed social worker Shaheen Attiq-ur-Rehman and Inner Wheel Club President and members were also present. Governor Khosa said that Shaheed ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto had laid down their lives for upholding democratic principles so as to radically uplift the socio-economic conditions of the deprived and the resourceless masses. He said through the Waseela Haq scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 3 lakh each was being extended to poor women to enable them to undertake small businesses like handicrafts to ameliorate their economic plight. Similarly, he added, Bait-ul-Mal funds were being utilized for provision of free of cost high quality education to orphan children in addition to arranging free lodging, boarding and clothing facility for them. He remarked that Pakistan had one of the finest cultural heritage and the glittering lifestyle and civilization of the outside world stood no comparison with the richness and variety of our culture. In the past the Muslims played a leadership role in the world due to their supremacy in knowledge and depth of culture. It is about time that we should once again polish and promote our cultural values and traditions of tolerance, brotherhood and empathy to transform Pakistan into a lasting cradle of peace and harmony, he observed, adding, Had we followed the motto of unity, faith and discipline enunciated by the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhmmad Ali Jinnah in letter and spirit, our country could have occupied an honourable and dignified place in the comity of nations today. Governor Latif Khan Khosa lauded the role of Inner Wheel district 340 for its valuable contribution as well as relief and rehabilitation activities during recent horrendous floods besides numerous welfare-oriented projects for the distressed humanity. Announcing a grant of one million rupees for the organization, the Governor assured them that they would have his fullest support for the humanitarian work being rendered by them. Earlier, soon after his arrival, the Governor along with Begum Mussarat Latif Khosa inaugurated an exhibition of handicrafts arranged by Innerwheel District 340 on the occasion. Abrar-ul-Haq, Dr Amber Faisal, Mrs Shama Shahab also addressed the audience.
