LAHORE Lawyers in the city on Saturday continued protest against the desecration of the Holy Quran by Florida pastor Terry Jones. They took out a protest demonstration and strongly condemned burning of the Holy Quran by the pastor and called for raising this issue at the United Nations as well as International Court of Justice. Leaders of the Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) also denounced the blasphemous act of Terry Jones and called upon the international community to take notice of it so that the culprit could be awarded exemplary punishment. While addressing a press conference last day, Vice Chairman of the Council Laharasib Khan Gondal had denounced the profane act of the American pastor and demanded the federal government to take strict action against him and other priests involved in such sacrilegious acts. The vice chairman said: The Muslims cannot tolerate any kind of blasphemy done either against the Quran or Islam. He said in fact the American Jews and Christians were committing these blasphemous acts against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Holy Quran fearing spreading of Islam in the western countries. PCSA President Rai Manzoor Nasir also addressed the meeting. Talking about the recent issue of PCS officers, he said a report was presented in the Punjab Assembly and a committee was also constituted to resolve the issues related to the PCS officers but still no action was taken for the purpose it was made for. The PbBC members assured their complete support to the PCS officers opposing the imposition of clause 144 in Civil Secretariat and the arrest of PCS officers.
