LAHORE - The issue of permission to MQM for holding its public moot at venue of their choice on April 10 in the provincial metropolis has finally been solved, as the City administration following Punjab government instructions has permitted MQM to hold meeting outside the Gaddafi Stadium, which is believed to be the second option of MQM after it is denied permission for Minar-e-Pakistan due to security reasons. It seemed that matter of permission could become a source of friction between MQM and PML-N, however the leaderships of two parties after repeated meetings and thorough reasoning over the issue, solved the issue, as MQM accepted second choice of provincial government to hold its public moot on April 10. When contacted, Iftikhar Randhawa, member MQM coordination committee and an important member of partys Punjab chapter said a deadlock was persisting over the issue till last night, however, the matter was finally solved on Saturday as a result of close coordination of MQM and PML-N leaders. He said that MQM had applied to the City district administration for holding partys public moot at Minar-e-Pakistan on April 10, but the administration turned down the request owing to security reasons. MQM leadership, in response to that, asked them to review the request on the condition that party would make its own security arrangements at Minar-e-Pakistan in addition to the measures taken by the Punjab government. However the local administration was not ready to reconsider the matter regarding Minar-e-Pakistan. Iftikhar added that after repeated meetings between MQM and PML-N leaderships in addition to meetings with district administration, both sides came up with more options, while the administration suggested MQM to hold the moot outside the Gaddafi Stadium, which MQM leadership promised to consider. Narrating more details, he said the administration, in the meantime, put before them the options of Gaddafi Stadium, Attique Stadium and Expo Centre for holding party moot in the four walls, which was out rightly refused by the top leadership and finally the provincial government asked the local administration for reaching a middle way on the issue and the administration gave them permission to go for the second option. He said that MQM would now hold its public meeting outside the Gaddafi Stadium adjacent to Ferozpur Road on April 10 instead of Minar-e-Pakistan. Pervaiz Rasheed, spokesman of provincial government when reached said PML-N had facilitated the MQM last year to exercise its democratic right when they held MQM party conventions at Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan at the same day and facilitated the MQM once again to hold public moot at the venue of their choice. He said it was a fact that MQM did not enjoy democratic freedom during the era of its previous coalition partners for exercising their democratic rights in Punjab, however, the PML-N gave them the complete freedom in this regard.
