LAHORE A local lawyer has filed an application before the Lahore High Court to seek reply from the Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, AD&SJ Muhammad Yousaf Aujla and others about their alleged role in facilitating the release of Raymond Davis on emergency basis ignoring the LHC orders whereof his name put on the Exit Control List (ECL). The petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree prayed the court to get statements on oath from the said respondents which also include Federal Law Secretary Pir Masood Chishtee, Zahid Hussain Bukhari, Raja Irshad and others to ascertain whether or not they had prior knowledge about the 'deal on the release Raymond and his subsequent acquittal by the trial court. The petitioner also prayed to the court to allow making them party in the case. Jafree said the LHC had directed the interior ministry to put the name of Raymond Davis on ECL and later the court was assured by a law officer and the ministry concerned that his name had been placed on ECL as per the court orders. He said that the court order was effective when Raymond was released and no such application was filed by anyone on behalf of Raymond before the LHC for permission to remove his name from the ECL. He said that in violation of the court order, Raymond Davis was allowed to leave the country whereas Punjab CM claimed that he was not aware of this development. He alleged that the government and its functionaries released Raymond without bringing the fact into the notice of the LHC and violated the LHC orders.
