ISLAMABAD - Supermodel Ayyan Ali Saturday filed an application in the top court for early hearing of a case regarding her name on the Exist Control List.

The model pleaded that she desperately needs to travel abroad for the fulfillment of her professional obligations and to see her ailing mother in Dubai.

Ayyan Ali was arrested by customs officials from the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad on March 14, 2015 after $506,800 was recovered from her luggage. She was released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after almost four months in detention. She has already been indicted in the money laundering case but denies the charges.

Two days ago in pursuance of the court she filed the concise statement through advocate Latif Khosa. She requested the apex court to dismiss the government’s appeal against Sindh High Court’s March 7 order with costs.

The reply states that Ayyan’s constitutional rights guaranteed by Articles 2-A, 4, 5, 9, 25,10-A etc are being ruthlessly violated as judgment of the SHC has already adjudged and vindicated her grievance by accepting her petition.

The Sindh High Court on March 7 ordered for removing her name from the ECL but the federal government challenged the high court order in the apex court. “Likewise, mere pendency of criminal case or proceeding is no grounds for clog on travel movement of a citizen and rightly so found by the SHC. As for the other considerations bulk of Ayyan Ali life earning has been seized and is with the custom department,” it added.

The statement says that Ayyan has given huge sureties for her release on bail and towards superdari of her passport; therefore, there is no question of her absconsion.

It is also expressed apprehension that Ayyan would be put to colossal financial loss if she does not fulfill her contractual obligations as can be evidenced from the notice she has received from her manager who is representing worldwide interest regarding her work as an artiste and modeling job etc.
