GHOTKI   -  A woman and her four children were burnt alive in a house fire in Ghotki in the wee hours of Sunday. 

According to the details, fire erupted in a pile of cotton, stored in the house and soon it engulfed the whole house, situated in ‘Jamal Panhoor’ village in Obaro.  

The ill-fated family including woman Jurri and her four children identified as Majid Ali, 8, Savera, 6, Hizbullah, 2, and Asifa, 3, were sleeping when their house caught fire in the wee hours of Sunday. As a result, four children were burnt to death on the spot while their mother and another woman sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where the mother of the children succumbed to her injuries.  

The local villagers said that fire was caused by a candle lit inside the house. However, all the valuables were also reduced to ashes.  

The villagers complained that no rescue official and fire brigade vehicle came to rescue the ill-fated family. The locals, however, extinguished the fire and pulled out the bodies.  

Alleged robber gunned down  

Police killed an alleged robber during an encounter in Korangi area of the city on Sunday. 

According to police, a gang of three unknown robbers aged between, 28, 26 and 30 were looting people at gunpoint near Korangi’s Causeway area, when a patrolling police party reached the scene. The robbers opened indiscriminate fire on police as police also retaliate and fired back.  

Police said that during the exchange of fire one of the bandit sustained bullet wound and died on the spot while two accomplice of him manage escaped from the scene under the cover of firing. Police said that a snatched motorbike and weapon was recovered from the possession of deceased bandit. Police shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities later moved to morgue for identification process.
