LAHORE As the plan to set up an All Pakistan Muslim League stands torpedoed after PML-Qs Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahis Monday meeting with Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan, Pir Pagaro has called a special meeting of various factions of the Pakistan Muslim League in Karachi on Friday to explore the possibility of forming a new alliance. About 50 leaders of the PML-Likeminded, PML (Zia), Awami Muslim League and the host PML (Functional) will be participating in the talks to be held at the residence of the spiritual leader. Pir told TheNation on Tuesday that he would continue with his efforts to bring all PML groups on the same platform. He believed that he would ultimately succeed in his mission, although he did not know how long could it take him to accomplish the task. He said the PML-N would be approached subsequently. PML-Likeminded Chairman Salim Saifullah told this reporter that leaders of his group would be meeting in Lahore on Thursday to craft their strategy about the talks to be held at the Kingri House, Pir Pagaros residence. He said once a decision was taken in Karachi to set up an alliance, the PML-N would also be approached. Salim Saifullah said since the Chaudhrys were the major irritants for Mian Nawaz Sharif, an alliance of the PML factions had been facilitated with the decision of the PML-Q leaders to join hands with the PPP. He said it would be better for the Sharifs to bid farewell to the PPP and join hands with the PML. He hoped that a committee would be constituted at the Karachi meeting to establish contact with other parties with a view to broadening the alliance. He said after the formation of an alliance, efforts would be intensified for a unified PML.
