LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting at the CM Secretariat here on Tuesday to review law and order situation in the province, which was attended by MNAs Pirzada Imran Shah and Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar, MPA Ch Javed Ahmed, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Commissioner and Regional Police Officer Sahiwal and senior officers concerned. The meeting reviewed in detail the tragic incident at the shrine of Hazrat Baba Fareed Ganj Shakar (RA). Addressing the meeting, the CM said the incident of terrorism at the shrine of Baba Fareed (RA) in Pakpattan should be condemned in the strongest terms. He said Pakistan was passing through a critical phase and facing serious security challenges. Nothing can be more important in the present circumstances than maintenance of law and order and Punjab government is utilising all available resources for this purpose. The present situation demands that the whole nation should unite on a single platform and foil the nefarious designs of the enemies of the country. The menace of terrorism will have to be crushed with an iron hand, he added, while directing that security arrangements of the highest level should be made at worship places, shrines and Imambargahs and measures should be taken for this purpose on emergent basis. He further directed the Chief Secretary to immediately select five major shrines and two Imambargahs and make them role model to be replicated with regard to security arrangements at all other places. In addition to installation of modern equipment, volunteers belonging to the concerned sect should also be assigned responsibilities along with police for ensuring security at these places, he directed. Shahbaz further said the CS should evolve a system for recruitment of volunteers and their training on modern lines should also be arranged. He directed Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police to personally visit major shrines and Imambargahs and submit their recommendations for evolving a foolproof security plan. The CM stressed the need for ensuring a close coordination between intelligence agencies and directed that their performance should be further improved and they should share information with the local police for improving security arrangements at important places. The IGP and RPO Sahiwal gave a detailed briefing regarding the bomb blast at the shrine of Baba Fareed (RA). They also informed about the security measures at the shrine. The meeting also offered Fateha for those who were martyred in the tragic incident at Pakpattan.
