LAHORE - Dr Tauqeer Shah, the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab has challenged the competence of the Director FIA Punjab, Zafar Ahmad Qureshi, an Inquiry Officer in Chief Justice Lahore High Courts alleged murder plot, and refused to join the inquiry being conducted by FIA on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Reliable sources in the Punjab CMs Secretariat disclosed that when Dr Tauqeer was summoned by director FIA to clarify his position about his alleged involvement in leakage of confidential report of the plot to the media, Dr Tauqeer in a letter told Director FIA Zafar Qureshi that a couple of months back you were DIG Telecommunications Punjab and you were made OSD only for the reason that Punjab government found your interference in election campaign during bye-election of Sargodha. I hope the aforesaid incident is not what has prompted you to create this baseless issue or raise such a frivolous query. He said Director FIA Zafar Qureshi can not summon him to answer any frivolous query. He advised Zafar Qureshi to follow the prescribed procedure, which is through the competent authorities in the Federal and provincial governments. Dr Tauqeer further said in the letter that it was beyond perception from the contents of your letter that on what basis and on whose instructions you are attempting to divert the inquiry into a collateral issue. Mr Shah was of the view that despite the fact if Ehsan-ur-Rehman, former Additional IG (Special Branch) Punjab has made any such statement, he has serious doubts whether he could have given any such statement, as you claimed in the letter under reply, which is totally baseless. When contacted, a senior police officer seeking anonymity said that when the judicial commission has started inquiry, the probe conducted by FIA carries no weight. This scribe tried to contact Rana Maqbool, former IG Sindh and presently serving as secretary Prosecution Punjab to know his view point on his position but he was not available.
