LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Finance, Planning and Development Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that there is a dire need to enhance the capacity of tax collecting agencies so that the revenue of the province could be increased substantially and there is a need for simplifying the system of all institutions responsible for tax collection so that industrialists and traders could deposit their taxes under one-window operation. The cost of doing business is very high and our government is trying hard to minimize the cost of doing business. According to an official handout issued on Monday, the Minister said that the upholding of constitution is a responsibility of every institution. He said that we should perform our responsibilities with honesty and the democratic system would have to continue. He said that there is a need for evolving long-term economic policy and controlling our expenditures as well as increasing the revenue for facilitating the masses. He said that public money would be spent on the welfare of the people and corruption would not be tolerated. The Minister further said that national economy faced a loss of 43 billion dollars in the war against terrorism while foreign aid of only 10 billion dollars was received in this period. He said that Punjab government provided more than Rs 7 billion through wattan cards to flood affectees and over all Rs 16 billion would be distributed among flood affectees while more than 5 lakh wattan cards have been distributed so far.
