Flooded streams following heavy monsoon rains played havoc in Landi Kotal town of Khyber Agency as floods swept away three women, a child and three vehicles on Sunday. Landi Kotal and adjoining areas received heavy downpours after Saturday-Sunday midnight causing flash floods in streams and tributary nullahs. The flood swept away four people including three women and a child besides three vehicles. The flash floods and heavy rains also destroyed or damaged a number of houses, cultivated lands and fruit orchard. The floodwater and incessant rains also swept away Pak-Afghan Highway and some link roads connecting different areas of the tribal agency. Damages to link roads have also created halt in rescue and relief activities and tribesmen on self assistance basis were busy in relief and rescue operations. In North Waziristan Agency (NWA) flood in Rive Tochi has threatened the population residing nearby the river. The people residing by or near the river have been directed to move to safer places.
