LAHORE Vice-Chancellor Punjab University Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has stressed the need for increasing PhD faculty in order to promote sound and high quality research and scholarly work along with teaching and academic activities at the varsity. He was addressing a largely attended meeting of research focal person drawn from each academic unit of the varsity along with their senior faculty members after inaugurating the first workshop on 'Research Management organised by the PU Research Office at Institute of Quality & Technology Management (IQTM) here on Tuesday. Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon, Prof Dr Waheed Akhtar and Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz Chaudhry were also present. The Vice-Chancellor said the primary function of a university is to create knowledge by doing research and disseminating it for tackling the local problems. Underlining the vital need for promoting indigenous research activities, he observed that the University is sparing no efforts to enhance the strength of PhD faculty to the optimal level within the available resources. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the efforts of present administration to develop a healthy and conducive environment for promoting standard of ongoing teaching and research activities on campus. He informed the participants that these endeavours have culminated in raising the ranking of the Punjab University from the previous 6th to 2nd position this year entirely because of the productive contribution made by the faculty in research pursuits. He impressed on the research workers to correctly set their research priorities and devote best part of their energies towards their specific research areas. Earlier, Prof Dr Aamir Ijaz Director IQTM, acknowledging the vision and support of the Vice-Chancellor in his welcome address, said that they are developing a database of varsity research activities that would soon be available on varsity website. At the end of the workshop, a panel discussion provided the participants to share their views and experiences with each others as well as with resource persons.
