LAHORE - Punjab Police apprehended as many as 53,058 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) in crackdowns against hardened criminals during the last six months across the province. Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar informed this in a meeting at Central Police Office on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the pace of implementation on the special operations being carried out under the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif against the outlaws across the province. The meeting was informed that apart from the apprehending 53,058 proclaimed offenders, about 24,894 Court absconders have also been netted in this operation. The participants of the meeting expressed the hope that the operation against the hardened criminals would go a long way in provision of peaceful atmosphere to the citizens. On the occasion, IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar urged the field police officers to enhance police patrolling in their respective areas and also keep an vigil eye on the activities of suspicious persons with the cooperation of local notables for ensuring their arrest before commission of crime. He maintained that it would be helpful for the eradication of terrorists, criminals as well as enhancing publics confidence on police department. Man found dead A 45-year-old unidentified man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Masti Gate police area on Tuesday. Police concerned said that the deceased, yet to be identified, was found dead in Masti Gate Area about 10: 00 am. Some locals spotted the body lying besides the road and informed the police. Police reached the spot and after collecting the necessary evidences shifted it to the City morgue for autopsy.
