ISLAMABAD Westridgians, Islamabad Rhinos and Eagles registered their victories in the ongoing 4th Capital Cup Basketball Championship at I-8 Basketball Courts here on Tuesday. In the first match of the day, Westridgians disposed of Jaws stiff challenge to earn a 42-31 victory on the third day of the local basketball event. Islamabad Rhinos overwhelmed CYSO Dolphins 81-33 and Eagles outplayed Islamabad Wolves 54-42 in the other fixtures of the day. Westridgians were caught flatfooted by Jaws in the first quarter, at the end of which the winners were trailing by two points. Westridgians, however, got their acts together as the game progressed and outscored Jaws in the remaining three quarters to win by a lead of nine points. Usman Ali was Westridgians best player, contributing 13 points. He was well assisted by Zohair Badar, who added 10 points. Abdullah Tariq was the leading scorer for Jaws with nine points while Abbas Rathore chipped in with eight. Islamabad Rhinos proved just too good for the youthful CYSO Dolphins in all departments of the game. They scored at will, defended well and showed no mercy to the youngsters. Murtaza Shah led Islamabad Rhinos scorers with 19 points. Omer Khan also had a good game scoring 14 points. Zaveen Waqar and Sawal added 12 and nine points respectively for CYSO Dolphins. In the third match of the day, Eagles raced to a 31-21 lead over Islamabad Wolves at the halfway stage. Although Islamabad Wolves tried to stage a fight-back in the final two quarters, their efforts were not enough to wipe out Eagles first-half 10-point advantage. Interestingly, both sides scored 23 points each in the second half. Eagles Jarri Abbas was easily the best player of the match. He seemed to be in golden touch as he scored 32 high points. Shahrukh Salim (9) and Fahad Butt (8) also played well. Umar Farooq added 15 points for Islamabad Wolves while Mohsin Saifullah and Usman collected 12 and eight points respectively. In todays (Wednesday) action, Cavs take on Islamabad Bulls, Rust meet Jaws and Islamabad Rhinos face Jaguars.
