ISLAMABAD - Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik Friday chaired a high-powered meeting in which the matters pertaining to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s operations, administration and performance were reviewed.Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary Interior, DG FIA, DG Immigration and Passports, Chairman NADRA, senior officers of FIA and the ministry attended the meeting. According to an official handout issued by the ministry, the meeting felt an entire need for provision of additional work force of FIA as well as its better transport facilities and strengthening the prosecution wing of the Agency. The meeting decided that 150 vehicles would be provided to FIA to cater its investigation, prosecution and other needs. The work force of FIA will be increased and 5,000 employees at various levels will be recruited. It was also decided that the link offices of FIA in abroad would be revived.It was also decided that FIA Academy would be raised to the status of university level. The Secretary Interior was directed to ensure that FIA employeeswould get salary package committed with them last year. Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the UK visa scam briefed the chair about the progress pertaining to the alleged scandal. Interior Minister showed satisfaction on the investigations.Earlier, Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly called on Interior Minister in Islamabad and congratulated him on talking the oath of federal minister. He also discussed problems of his area related to Nadra and issuance of passports. The minister announced that a new passport office would be established in Tank that would be inaugurated by the minister himself after Eid-ul-Fitr.Newly appointed Director General of FIA, Muhammad Anwar Virk, also called on Interior Minister here on Friday and briefed him about the performance of FIA. The minister directed DG FIA to further improve the performance of FIA especially in controlling human smuggling and drug trafficking.
