LAHORE – Information Technology and Telecom Secretary Farooq Ahmed Awan is likely to be given additional charge of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman.

Dr Muhammad Ysain vacated the post on July 23 after serving for four years. The post of PTA chairman gas assumed a vital importance since the government is going to auction 3G licenses in the ongoing fiscal year. It is expected that over Rs75 billion would be added in the national kitty after the completion of the auction process.

It has also been learnt that Farooq Awan will assume the charge as the PTA chairman next week. The Ministry of Information Technology spokesperson, however, could not be reached for comments.
