LAHORE – Dacoits shot dead a 40-year-old vendor on offering resistance during a robbery attempt before dawn in the Naseerabad area, police said on Friday.

A resident of Green Town (Sector-II), Abdul Sattar, riding on a motorcycle was on his way to fruit and vegetable market situated in the Kot Lakhpat area when two gunmen stopped him near Model Town courts.

The robbers held him up at gunpoint and demanded cash and valuables. As Abdul Sattar, said to be a fruit vendor, offered resistance and tried to overpower the bandits, they opened straight fire at him. The gunmen fled away, leaving him in a pool of blood. The injured was rushed to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police claimed that they recovered Rs80,000 from the pocket of the deceased. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far.

SHOT DEAD: Motorcyclists shot dead a 45-year-old man over old enmity in the Shahdara area, police said. A resident of Shahdara, Muhammad Ashraf, riding on a motorcycle, was going to appear before DSP Ferozwala in connection with a case when his opponents stopped him a few yards away his residence.

Police investigators said Moazzam, Afzal and Ashfaq opened straight fire at Ashraf and fled away within no time. He sustained multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police investigators said Shahnaz Bibi, wife of the deceased, had also been shot dead a few days ago. The killers had old enmity with the deceased. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far.

2 KILLED IN ROAD MISHAPS: Two people were killed in as many road mishaps in different parts of the City, police said on Friday.

An unidentified youth was crossing the road near Saggian Bridge in the Islampura area when a mini truck ran over him. The youth sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The police have arrested the driver and are investigating.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy, who was admitted to a local hospital with serious injuries, died there on early Friday, Gujjarpura police said. The youth, yet to be identified, sustained injuries when a rashly-driven vehicle hit him from the rear side near Begumpura the other day. The police have removed the dead bodies to the morgue and are investigating.

BURN INJURIES: Three members of a family sustained serious burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded with a bang at a house in the Green Town area.

Rescue workers said Abdul Jabbar, Farzana Bibi and Kinza sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. The family told the police that all of a sudden the gas-cylinder exploded in their residence situated near Bagrian Chowk.

cylinder blast: Also, a 35-year-old man, who had sustained multiple injuries during a cylinder blast at Lyton Road, succumbed to his wounds at the Mayo Hospital on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Sham Nagar. Police concerned said one Jameel had established a garment factory on the Main Sham Nagar Road a few months ago. On the day of the incident, a cylinder blasted with a bang and subsequently six people including Muhammad Hussain sustained critical wounds.

The injured were shifted to the Burn Unit of the Mayo Hospital, where the doctors pronounced Hussain as dead. The body was handed over to the heirs of the deceased after police completed necessary medico-legal formalities. Police have booked and arrested three people on charges of criminal negligence and further investigation is underway.

SI ATTACKED: Lorry Adda Additional SHO Sub Inspector Aleem Khan was attacked by some unidentified people at his residence in the Islampura police area in the wee hours of Thursday. A close relative of Aleem said he was being operated at Yousuf Memorial Hospital in Sheikhupura where his condition was said to be critical until the filing of this news report.
