ISLAMABAD – Vendors continue to carry out their small business activities on footpaths in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, causing a number of hardships for the pedestrians and motorists.

Various markets including Aabpara, Faizabad, Sitara Market Melody and Karachi Company are the targets of the encroachment.

The growing encroachments have not only marred beauty of the both cities, but also damaged road, causing hardships for pedestrians and motorists alike.

A stallholder at G-9 Market, said that he had set up a stall at a footpath as he had no other option due to sky rocketing prices of rents. While justifying his illegal practice he said, “we also have to earn bread for our families. “I set up my stall in this market because I had no other space to do business,” he added.

An official enforcement directorate, CDA said that all the markets and residential sectors would be cleared from encroachment activities, adding that these activities creating problems for the residents.

It may be mentioned here that Enforcement Directorate is responsible for removal of encroachments, illegal constructions and clearance of area for the developmental work, throughout the Capital area.

INP adds: The commercial free, Rawal Road, which passes through limits of Tehsil Municipal Administration and Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), has been encroached upon by auto workshops and other commercial activities.

The road and pavement are virtually occupied by commercial activities allegedly in connivance of corrupt officials of TMA Rawal Town and Cantt. These activities could create traffic problems. Moreover, plants on road divider were not properly looked after.

Citizens demanded concerned authorities to pay due attention to problems of Rawal Road as commercial activities on road could contribute to traffic mess.
