AHMEDPUR EAST - Barrister Princess Saira Mehreen Abbasi, the daughter of former governor of Sindh Lt-Gen SM Abbasi (late) has joined the Bahawalpur National Awami Party.

She made the announcement in the presence of BNAP Chief Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi at his residence Sadiq Garh Palace, Dera Nawab Sahib. She also held a meeting with the party chief for one hour. Talking to the media, Barrister Mehreen said that she decided to join the party due to its revolutionary manifesto and strenuous efforts of Nawab Abbasi for the restoration of former Bahawalpur province.

To a question about her contesting the next general elections, she said it depended upon Nawab Salahuddin. However, she vowed to unite Bahawalpur women on the BNAP platform. Meanwhile, BNAP President Farooq Azam Malik, Secretary General Mian Ilyas Ayaz, Additional Secretary General Mian Rafatur Rehman and Secretary Information Javed Dauletzai welcomed Barrister Mehreen's decision to join the Bahawalpur National Awami Party and hoped that she would lead the women in Bahawalpur region.

She has worked with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, IUCN, Aurat Foundation and Ministry of Law.

Fire burns DHQ power supply circuit: A fire, caused by a short-circuiting, reduced the main power supply circuit here in DHQ Hospital to ashes the other day.

According to hospital sources, electric wires suddenly caught fire at around 10am. As a result power supply disrupted which caused manifold problems to the patients.

The Gepco failed to restore power supply till late in the evening.

Couple injured in road mishap: A couple was injured when their motorcycle collided with a donkey-cart on Toba-Rajana Road. Rescue-1122 shifted Shama Bibi and Ghulam Murtaza of Chak-291/GB to DHQ hospital in critical condition.
